Rather than explain the monetary system in a 1000 page article (which is what it might take) I will instead post links to the best videos to help you understand the banking system. The videos are far easier to understand and absorb than 1000 pages of writing and far more interesting too. Videos that are available for free will have direct links to them.
MONEY AS DEBTThis great little video is a cartoon presentation of the money system in very easy to understand terms. At 47 minutes it’s not too long and provides a good amount of information. It gives a very simplified history of how banking works and is a one of the best videos to watch if you are new to this topic. The Reserve Banking system is explained in fashion similar a kid’s story which may seem a little silly at first but actually makes the process very easy to understand the methods of the current monetary system.
THE MONEY MASTERSClocking in at a mighty 3 hours and 35 minutes, this is possibly the longest and also most informative documentary on the subject. Because of the length of the video, the presenter, William T. Still has the time to take us through and explain the full history and mechanics of how the current banking system was created and is presently controlled. The video provides a full who’s-who of the banking world and how each formed and shaped the system we have today. Not afraid to delve into the intricacies, the video covers almost all aspects of banking, including fractional reserve banking, central banking, monetary policy, the bond system and the federal reserve system. You will also learn how depressions, recessions and inflation is all timed and manipulated by the Central Bank and why. The presenter makes the more technical aspects far easier to understand thanks to the well-rounded explanation of how each piece of the puzzle works and fits together. A little older than most on the topic being produced in 1995, the video has dire predictions for the future of the banking systems effect on society, many of which we see becoming reality as you will surely notice with the recessions, credit crunch and billions of dollars in bailouts happening today.

AMERICA: FREEDOM TO FASCISMProduced, written and directed by the famous entertainment businessman and film-maker, Aaron Russo in 2006, America: Freedom to Fascism is a film specifically targeting the Federal Income Tax and asks if there is even a law that specifically requires citizens to pay it. Russo investigates the history of the tax and why people are forced to pay and what happens to some of those who don’t. Packed with interviews, Russo uncovers some shocking facts, some of which come “straight from the horses mouth” of those in authoritative positions in banking and politics. Russo provides an investigation into the central banking system and how America was sold into slavery by the wealthy owners of the Federal Reserve Bank.
ZEITGEIST – ADDENDUMhttp://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7065205277695921912This is a free 123 minute continuation of the first Zeitgeist film, primarily about the monetary system, Zeitgeist Addendum investigates the mechanics of the Central Bank and criticizes the current fractional-reserve banking methods.
The first section of the film addresses the fractional-reserve system, the perpetuating debt it generates and the futility of taxing the people to pay the debt with an unconstitutional banking system.
The second section investigates the take-over tactics used by “economic hit-men” to infiltrate and convert foreign corporations and governments by almost any means necessary to ultimately gain control of assets and eventually own another country’s industrial infrastructure at the cost of it’s citizens.
The third section is a proposal of a fully self-sustainable resource based economy removed from the current monetary system. Created by Jacque Fresco, the Venus Project proposes a society that uses technology and resources for the service and benefit of the people rather than using them to make a corporate profit. Fresco theorizes that with an abundance of energy, resources and focused advancement of technology, it would be possible to eliminate human greed and corruption and therefore eliminate poverty and the subsequent crimes of those in poverty as this is the prime cause of most criminal activity.
The final section of Zeitgeist Addendum encourages the viewer to take action by way of rejecting the current political structure, monetary system, mainstream media and especially the military. The film encourages the use of alternative energy sources, independent news websites and “living off the grid”
